| Thomas Paine was the author of two hugely popular pamphlets. His work influenced the Founding Fathers and Thomas Jefferson included his ideas in the Declaration of Independence. Common Sense was published on January 9, 1776. It sold over 120,000 copies. Historians believe one half of the American population read his work or had it read to them. Paine argued two points in the pamphlet. 1. The colonies should revolt and become independent from England. 2. The new country should form a democratic form of government where the people not a king had the power. Watch the two video links and complete the assignment below.
